Thanks for visiting Rethinker.net!
As for rethinker.net,
this is a no-frills site where one fellow is slowly attempting to articulate
his “on second thought” and “on third thought” types of theories and
tentative-conclusions about debatable and controversial questions.
This site is in an
early phase of construction. There is no
lack of rethinkage whirring around in my mind and no lack of inspiration to
attempt to squeeze them into a sharable format.
Finding the luxury of time and the fleeting mental clarity to articulate
them into readable English provides the real challenge. As a result, I have to offer apologies that
most of the rethinks here are not yet fit for human consumption. They’re all just rough drafts at best. (And
some rougher than others!) But if you
keep your expectations low, your disappointment will be likewise.
Many of the rethinks
are the result of controversies my own soul has been embroiled in. Being willing to let my traditions be challenged
has allowed me, I believe, to come to some unique (and hopefully therefore
valuable) and tested reconclusions. Many
of these rethinks come from the questions that most often come up to me in my
discussions with others.
Basic
categories are. . .
This
Sophia corner of this site is where I attempt to philosophize on matters of
philosophy of religion, comparative religion, epistemology, metaphysics,
quantum theory and cosmology, God and gods, faith and reason, neo-thomism
versus neo-kantianism, nihilism and existentialism and the meaning of life, and
all those other similar type of -ism's I've spent years wrestling
with. [Not much here yet.]
In Biblia
I rethink some of the questions about the sixty-six books that are commonly known
as "the Bible." In time I'm going to try to rethink my way
through questions about the historical reliability of the manuscripts, the
question of "inspiration" (did God indirectly write those books?),
the question of inerrancy (is it without factual error in terms of history and
science?), the questions of authority (who speaks for God when we cannot hear
God's voice?), hermeneutic and interpretation (can't anyone make any big book
say anything they want it to say?). [Not
much here yet either. Sigh.]
In the
Yeshua corner I'm going to attempt to reconsider the historical-and-biblical
Jesus, the contextualized Jesii, and the mythical Jesii. [Not much here yet.]
In
Soteria I'm attempting to rethink my way through questions about "salvation."
It has been suggested that the Judeo-Christian is afraid that the individual
soul is not immortal, but wants it to be, while the Hindu-Buddhist is afraid
that the individual soul is immortal and wants it not to be. I'm mainly trying
to explore salvation in terms of the Judeo-Christian sense on this corner of
the site. [Not much here yet.]
Here I am
attempting to figure out the who-what-when-where-how of the Church. I’m exploring the formation of the first
generation of churches, the deformation of the church (what went wrong?!), and
possible ways to recover something more reminiscent of the original, excellent
model. To many, including myself, “church” is a word that evokes a
slough of negative emotions and memories.
This corner of the website attempts to learn lessons from the many ugly
mistakes over 2,000 years of Church history.
But it also attempts to recover the beauty of the organic original
Church.
This is
where I'm going to be rethinking some of the hopefully more important questions
and controversies in Judeo-Christian theology. Its stuff that didn't seem to
fit well in the more granular corners of soteria or ekklesia.
Here I
attempt to reconsider questions regarding family life, marriage, raising
children and such. [Not much here yet.]
In the
Health corner I'm trying to explore the few topics of health that have so far
impacted my life.
Reviews
The
Reviews corner will eventually contain reviews of books and movies. [Nothing here yet.]

It is the Lord who judges me.
Therefore judge nothing
before the appointed time; wait till the Lord comes.
He will bring to light what
is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of men’s hearts.
At that time each will
receive his praise from God.
